This piece was created as a commemorative gift and personal milestone. The Buddha is seen reflecting in darkness of the deep matte black void while still shining and reflecting light. This piece reflects my search for peace, grounding and renewed artistic direction. In this painting I chose to render it in brassy, patinated, metallic gold tones that echo the wear found on devotional sculptures-marks left by generations of touch. I used the symbol of the fleur-de-lis in the space of the third eye, symbolizing clarity, awakening, and my arrival in New Orleans.
